CREATE! LIKHA! CREATE!

LIKHANDULA

International Arts Exchange and Collaboration

In 1989, ARTIST, Inc. developed a training manual on theater improvisation that we decided to call 'LIKHANDULA'. It is a derivative of two words: likha which means ‘to create’ and dula which roughly translates to 'stage performance'.

The LIKHANDULA manual has been used through the years by various schools and organizations, both in the country and abroad, as instructional materials to develop and mount collaborative performances.

As one of the banner projects of its 30th founding anniversary in 2017, ARTIST Inc. launched LIKHANDULA International Arts Exchange and Collaboration as we know it now: an international arts festival and gathering of artists, cultural workers, performers, cultural collectives, performing ensembles, theater companies, arts managers and cultural organizers to celebrate collaborative creation among different cultures.

KATEKISTANG MALIKHAIN

To have a deeper understanding of the Philippine culture, recognizing and appreciating the significance of the religiosity of the Filipinos are necessary. The ARTIST Inc. partnered with the Catholic Conference Bishop of the Philippines (CBCP) and University of Santo Tomas in launching a research-intervention outcome project dubbed KATEKISTANG MALIKHAIN. The project was intended to develop instructional materials for catechist.

Almost every culture has its own lullabies

OYAYI NG MUNDO

But aside from calming down a distressed child or putting an infant to sleep, these lullabies also serve other functions in the family and the community. Usually composed of structured lines in the local language, they may well be a child's introduction to poetry and folk literature. Oftentimes containing lyrics about the world around the singers, they may also be considered as narratives on the conditions and aspirations of the community. These, among many others, show what more there is to lullabies. Hence we bring you the project, OYAYI NG MUNDO: Lullabies through Live-into-Digital Performance in Building a Network of Care! It is a collaborative performance project anthologizing the lullabies from selected ethnolinguistic groups of the Philippines along with some emergent lullabies composed by contemporary artists. It seeks to highlight lullabies as part of the intangible cultural heritage of communities, and to explore its potentials in building a network of care and compassion amidst the global crisis.OYAYI NG MUNDO: Lullabies through Live-into-Digital Performance in Building a Network of Care (TAHAN Series 2) is brought to you by ARTIST, Inc., made possible through the CCP KALINGA ng SINING: Art For Healing and Transformation of the CCP Cultural Exchange Department.
